Program - Introduction by Larry Bennett

A wonderful program titled Comfort Zone Camp was presented by Pete Shrock and Courtney Donrico. CZC is a weekend camp that serves children from ages 7 to 17 who have lost one or more parents. The children often grow up with the feeling that they are the only ones who suffer from this tragedy. They have an overwhelming feeling that the world is unfair and everything can be taken away from them at any time. In the camp they learn that they are not alone in this experience. They learn to share their fears with other children who have had similar experiences and are matched up with adult volunteers who understand their plight. A major goal of Comfort Zone Camp is to provide a fun and safe place for children by providing exercises and events for them so they can learn that the world is not so bad.

There are camps in 47 of the states in the USA. There is no charge for the grieving children and they can attend several times. CZC came to California two years ago and has served about 660 children here. They recently moved to Orange County and O.C. has 130 carefully screened and trained volunteers to help the children. There are 8 camps in California and O.C. has 4 of them.

You can learn more at the www.comfortzonecamp.org website.

What a great presentation!

Prez J. closed the meeting by thanking the Rotarians and guests for attending, and leaving us with these words of wisdom, Planning without action is futile. Action without planning is fatal.
