President Ken Kaisch opened up the meeting with the awesome news that Wednesday, we meet at Dan and Susan Ouweleen’s home. Thank you Dan and Susan for opening up their home for everyone to meet in person. There is room outside for those who want, room inside for those who want, and we will experiement with Zoom too, covering all the possible options! For those interested in attending please contact Dan Ouweleen for more information.

President Ken Kaisch then provided us with comforting words and encouragement on the outlook of this pandemic.

Club news:

Club members that deserve special recognition for Service Above Self: Howard Minkley and Zoot Velasco who are cooking up some very cool ideas for getting together. What they have shared with me involves cooking, cocktails and a virtual costume party. Stay tuned for more on this…

Announcements:

· Monica Fernandez is creating a list for us of hands-on projects in the local community. If you know of some way the club can be of service to a local group, please contact Monica. She would especially like input from the club members who participate in local non-profits.

· Now is a great time to invite your friends to a Rotary meeting. Everyone is bored with the quarantine monotony, so Rotary is a welcome respite.

· Next week, Dr. Fram Virjee, president of Cal State Fullerton, will talk to the club about how the Titans are reaching higher in these challenging time

· Howard Minkley asks everyone to please make sure to check your emails for upcoming gatherings.

· Through the help of Mike Cochran, our club received district award for our Jog A Thon Event, Rotary International award for number of projects we did over the years and youth service.

· This Wednesday’s lunch will be at the Ouweleen’s. There’s plenty of room to keep people safe distancing. Lunch will be preordered via email. Dan will email you a menu from Panera. Please let Dan know your meal selection and each person will receive a personal box lunch.

· Bob Muschek announced that Bob Hathaway’s funeral was held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. Bob Hathaway served 7 years in navy, He was an engineer, Lawyer, Teacher and served on the School board for 33 years. His Funeral service was beautiful.

Lesly McCarthy was fined for her husband Kevin’s Birthday
Zoot and Monet Velasco was recognized for their wedding anniversary
Bill and Robin Mathy were recognized for their wedding anniversary
Matthew Lebouf was recognized for his Fotary anniversary

Our speaker today is the extremely informed and entertaining Dr. Barbara Stone. Professor of Political Science; California State University, Fullerton

Barbara gave us an overview of our country’s political climate. She discussed her views on our upcoming Presidential election and the potential impact of each presidential candidate.

She discussed the controversy of the current situation with our Supreme Court.

She also brought up some of the more interesting Propositions on our upcoming election, namely,

Prop 15 on commercial property tax
Prop 16 on discrimination namely its effect on our students.
Prop 20 on criminal justice and defining misdemeanor and felony
Prop 25 on cash bail

President Ken Kaisch concluded the meeting by thanking our speaker for today and awarding her with a can of NUTs! “Go out and be good people and great Rotarians!”
