Terri Grassi tells us her Life Story
Proposed New Member: Jordan Garcia, YMCA Exec Director, by Joe Lins

President Joe Lins brought today’s meeting to order in celebration of the U.S. soccer teams win over Iran in the World Cup Games. President Lins then presented Bob Muschek with the presidential speaker’s gift for his diatribe on the World Cup Games at last weeks meeting. Bob promised there would be more updates to come. Cathy Gach gave today’s invocation and Jim Williams conducted our patriotic moment. Bud Lange led the club in a chorus of Feliz Navidad as today’s song master.

Guests today included Jordan Garcia, pending member, Amy Hunter, daughter of Frances Hunter, Kerry Phelps, wife of John Phelps, Sandra Hayes, past member, and “do not introduce” Sally Williams, wife of Jim Williams.

Announcements today included notice that we will have three board member openings next year. If interested in being a board member, please contact President-Elect Jim Ripley. To-date we have collected $18,530 for the upcoming Community Investment Awards. Our goal is to collect $20,000 to be eligible for a matching grant of $10,000 form the Orange County Charitable Foundation. So far, we have raised $25,000 towards the matching gift of $50,000 which will benefit our club’s foundation. We have until December 15th to make donations to the foundation to be eligible for this matching gift.

Bob Muschek was recognition master today, noting Kim Barlow’s birthday, Joe Arnold for his Rotary Anniversary, Dan Kiernan for his Rotary Anniversary of 36 years, Pat Tormey with a wedding anniversary, and Mike Cochran for his upcoming birthday. Bob Muschek had a brag about his granddaughter recently giving birth to twins and Joe Lins bragged for having asked Randy McFarland to come up front and tell a joke for the first time ever.

Joe Lins presented Zoot Velasco with the Paul Harris Fellowship Pin.

Terri Grassi gave her senior craft talk today. Terri was born in Brooklyn New York in 1954 to parents Carmine and Mary Appice. Terri has three brothers, two older and one younger. Two of her brothers are famous musicians. Carmine who has played with Vanilla Fudge, Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart. Carmine is also credited with co-writing one of Rod Stewart’s most popular songs, Do You Think I’m Sexy. Brother Vinny has played with John Lennon, Dio and Black Sabbath. Both brothers have been inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal History. Terri and her older brother Frank even got involved signing back up on Carmine and Vinny’s collaboration album, Sinister and got album credits. Terri has two daughter, Laura and Andrea as well as her favorite grandson, Mateo. Terri began her business career in medical lab technology before marring in 1975. After moving to California, Terri began working at Chevron’s research lab in La Habra and began a tax preparation program with H&R Block where she eventually became and instructor and became an Enrolled Agent. After separation from her husband, Terri applied to CSUF where she completed her degree in accounting and later obtained her CPA designation. After working with other tax firms, Terri formed her own successful tax practice here in Fullerton where she practiced for more than 20 years. Glenda Stroobant invited Terri to her first Rotary meeting where she realized it was time to give back to the community where she had found success. That was 27 years ago, and it touched her life in more ways than she could have ever imagined. She even served as club President. Now retired as a CPA Terri works as a registered investment advisor representative with Jim Ripley at RAI Wealth Management and spends as much time as she can with her grandson, Mateo. “I am grateful for all these blessings. I hope that somewhere along my path I have given back and helped change someone’s life the way my life was changed”.

President Lins presented Terri with the Presidential speakers’ gift and thanked Terri for her presentation as well as for her hard work keeping the club’s books in order.

Next week our featured speaker will be Dr. Mira Farka from CSUF School of Economics who will be presenting her annual economic outlook for the global economies. In addition, the club Christmas Party will be held the evening of December 14th at the Phelps home between 5:30 and 8:00 pm.

With that, President Lins brought the meeting to a close.
